Swell a touch too small to run heats leads to epic expression session
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 August, 2015 - A long awaited and much anticipated south-west Indian Ocean ground swell has finally made its way up from Western Australia, and today started to bare its fangs at thrilling Padang Padang. With the swell a touch too small to run heats, Padang still served up an afternoon of incredible yet inconsistent conditions for the ravenous pack of Expression Session entrants.
As the tide dropped away drastically Pat Curren, Chris Ward, Wade Goodall and Jamie O'Brien were but a few of the Rip Curl Cup competitors eager to take on the jewel in Balinese surfing's crown with the lineup to themselves, and some of the tube riding seen over the deadly dry end section was as brilliant as it was nerve-wracking to watch.

With the swell expected to continue to fill in overnight event organisers are confident of running first thing tomorrow morning. Competition will need to go on hold for a couple of hours to accommodate high tide peaking the middle of the day, meaning officials will be making a 6am call for a 6.30am start, before hopefully we see a dramatic afternoon conclusion to the 2015 Rip Curl Cup.
Stay tuned to live.ripcurl.com for tomorrow's live webcast. Best of luck to all competitors and here's hoping that Huey delivers the Island of the Gods the goods!
