High scores and outstanding performances dictate day two

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 December, 2014 - Sunshine Coast, Queensland - High scores and outstanding performances dictate day two of the Rip Curl Grom Search Presented by Posca. Standards were set high in day two of competition at the Rip Curl Grom Search Presented by Posca with pristine conditions continuing to roll through into day two providing competitors with favourable waves at Coolum Beach.

Dextar Muskens (Tweed Heads, NSW) made his intentions clear when he opened his Rip Curl Grom Search campaign in round 2 of the 14 and under boys. Dextar manufactured an array of progressive manoeuvres in each of his waves with his two best locked in at a 7.83 and a 7.00 (out of a possible 10) defeating Hinata Aizawa (Currumbin, QLD), Joseph Markwell (Sunrise Beach, QLD) and Zack McMahon (Evans Head, NSW) respectively.

Also posing a threat within the 14 and under boys division, Finn Hill (Avoca Beach, NSW) who displayed speed, power and flow in his surfing securing a first place position in his round two heat. Finn will continue his Rip Curl Grom Search campaign in a stacked round 3 heat against Taj Watson (Sandy Beach, NSW), Toby Lyons (Castaways Beach, QLD) and Kai Dobbyn (Palm Beach, QLD) set to resume tomorrow afternoon.

Japan’s Arashi Murata put himself in the spotlight after posting the events first perfect 10 point undoubtedly taking out the Posca wave of the day and guaranteeing himself a first place finish in his round two heat. For his wave of the day, Arashi takes home a pack of Posca Pens courtesy of Posca.

The Posca expression session resumed today for its second run of frothing grommets who hit the water in hope of bagging themselves a bunch of prizes with the best wave, best manoeuvre and best froth award courtesy of Rip Curl, Posca and Shapers Fins.

Competition is set to resume tomorrow at Coolum beach with the 16 and under boys round two first out in the water closely followed by the 16 and under girls round two.

The Australian Rip Curl Grom Search series includes 5 events at key surfing locations around the country followed by a National final at Sydney's famous North Narrabeen.

This year the National Final has been expanded to a 3-day event allowing all divisions to surf it out for the National Title. Winners in the 16's division will go on to represent Australia against the rest of the world at the Grom Search International Final.

Current ASP World Tour surfers who have competed in the Rip Curl GromSearch finals include: Gabriel Medina (Brazil), Kolohe Andino (USA), Felipe Toledo (Brazil), Owen Wright (Australia), Jordy Smith (South Africa), Matt Wilkinson (Australia), Tyler Wright (Australia), Stephanie Gilmore (Australia). Malia Manuel (USA), Sally Fitzgibbons (Australia), Laura Enever (Australia) and Alana Blanchard (Hawaii).
