Jihad Khodr, Yan Deberkow, Bruno Galini standouts Day 1

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 April, 2014 - Mar del Plata, Argentina - The ASP 3-Star Rip Curl Pro Stamina opened with a lengthy day of competitive surfing at Playa Grande, Mar del Plata, Argentina. A total of 24 heats were finalized and competition will continue throughout Sunday where a total of U$ 55,000 in prize money and valuable ASP ranking points (2,000 points towards the ASP South America Series and 750 points towards the ASP Qualifying Series) will be up for grabs for the international array of athletes.

Jihad Khodr (BRA), won the Rip Curl Pro Argentina title in 2013 and began his campaign for a repeat victory by scoring a heat total of 16.10 (out of 20) and qualifying into the Round of 64.

“I was really calm and focused in my heat,” said Jihad Khodr. “I know that it’s going to be very difficult to win this event again, but I just have to remain sharp. Argentina is very important because a lot changes started taking place for me exactly one year ago.”

The ASP 3-Star Rip Curl Pro Stamina is the opening event of the 2014 ASP South America Series and is composed of 112 athletes worldwide representing Argentina, Brazil, the USA, Chile, Peru, Australia, South Africa, Japan, Uruguay, Ecuador, France, Spain, Venezuela and others.

A few international standouts included Jake Halstead (USA), Ethan Egiguren (EUK), Dimitri Ouvre (GLP), Yago Dora (BRA), Marco Giorgi (URY) and Reo Inaba (JPN) who all advanced into the Round of 64 and will face the event’s top seeds.
