Mayor Luis Castañeda approves plan for third lane

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 January, 2015 - Yesterday, surfers and activists for the Costa Verde collected under the name Salvemos la Costa Verde, “Let’s save the Costa Verde,” after the Municipality of Lima announced it will indeed finish the original plan of a third lane  between Pampilla and Roquitas beaches of the Miraflores coastline.

Under the previous municipality, Susana Villarán, former mayor of Lima, negotiated and agreed with the activists to not build the third lane. However, with the new office sworn in, mayor Luis Castañeda approved the EMAPE plan to follow through with the third lane.

Following the news, about 50 surfers peacefully protested at the Pampilla beach in Miraflores yesterday to express their concern and urge the mayor to meet with them. President of the National Federation of Surfing, Carlos Neuhaus, criticized the municipality’s actions and pleads with them to meet and negotiate, according to El Comercio.
