Rob to focus on eco-friendly & Reef Redemption programs

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 July, 2014 - Reef announces that Reef Footwear Ambassador Rob Machado has signed on to continue his 18-year relationship with the Reef family through 2019. “It’s crazy to think that I've been riding for Reef for 18 years. They have been by my side through all the stages of my professional wave-riding career, and I couldn't be happier to continue the relationship for another 5 years,” says Machado.

“I'm really looking forward to collaborating on eco-friendly products and being more involved with their Reef Redemption program, both of which are hugely important to me. It’s going be a good time.”
 
Machado, of Cardiff, California has been on the Reef program since 1996. Not only was Machado a key figure in surfing’s “Momentum” Generation” but during his competitive career, he was a regular in the Association of Surfing Professionals top 15. He finished the 1995 ASP World Tour season second only to his good friend, Kelly Slater.

Over his career, he won eight elite World Tour events, including the 2000 Pipeline Masters. That year he was also inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame.
 
For the past decade, Machado has reaffirmed his love of soulful, stylish surfing. While he continues to compete in selected events, he’s more focused on representing surfing's wanderlust; traveling the world to document waves off the beaten path and opening the collective surfing mind to a much wider spectrum of surfboards.  

But home will always be North County San Diego, and in 2004 he formed the Rob Machado Foundation to support his local community and initiate education programs focused on helping children understand their contribution toward a healthy earth.
 
In addition to wave riding and his support of various philanthropic causes, Machado is an accomplished surfboard shaper, musician, photographer and filmmaker through his well-received web series "Through the Lens".  With all that, Rob’s philosophy is a perfect fit with Reef’s brand vision.
