Machado joins conference at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 February, 2014 -- Creative surfers are finding new ways to embed sustainability into the world of riding waves – and in their personal lives. One of them is the legendary Rob Machado, who will be a part of “The Future of Surfing Is Not Disposable” Conference at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography on Feb 15.

This important event will include TED-style talks on emerging technologies, a panel discussion on sustainability in action, and a live surfboard glassing demonstration on stage.

Dr. Davey Kline will deliver the prestigious Dr. Walter Munk Lecture on the affects of ocean acidification on coral reefs – and how wave action threatens damaged reefs.

The Conference is in Sumner Auditorium from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

The conference will conclude with an afternoon Sustainable Surf Craft Surf Session, featuring the latest surfboards designed and manufactured with sustainable ‘best practices.’ - 4:00 PM to Dusk - Just north of the Scripps Pier

The conference and surf session are open to the public. Registration is $35 and includes free parking, morning and afternoon snacks and drinks, and a box lunch. Seniors and students $25. Conference only $20/$10. Conference t-shirts $15.
