Silent NEMO Project unleashes robotic shark drone

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 December, 2014 - Say hello to GhostSwimmer, a new underwater drone developed by the U.S. Navy. The drone, designed to look like a shark, has been designed to conduct various surveillance work.

GhostSwimmer will work collecting data on tides, varied currents, wakes, and weather conditions. GhostSwimmer is the latest in a series of science-fiction-turned-reality projects developed by the chief of naval operations’ Rapid Innovation Cell’s Silent NEMO Project.

Around 5 feet  in length with a weight of close to100 pounds, the GhostSwimmer can operate in water depths ranging from 10 inches to 300 feet, according the U.S. Navy.
