Newquay Activity Centre welcomes Ben Skinner as guest coach
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 December, 2013 -- Newquay Activity Centre was pleased to welcome the Royal Navy-Royal Marine Board Riders for a morning of surf coaching and analysis from the very best.
Newquay Activity Centre director Rob Barber, World No.2 longboarder Ben ‘Skindog’ Skinner and head surf coach Jorrin Massingham provided the group with a two-hour session. Before heading out, Rob and Skindog asked everyone in the group what they specifically wanted to work on and get out of the session. From nailing turns and snaps, improving style and the linking of turns, there was plenty for the team of instructors to work on.
It was soon time to head on out. After consulting the conditions at Fistral earlier that morning, the decision was made to head to Towan Beach as it was offering cleaner and more sheltered conditions. Skindog firstly gave some detailed tuition on the beach before hitting the surf himself.
This was a great chance for the RNRM surfers to witness at first hand the technique and style from the very best in the business. With three coaches in the water and a videographer on the beach, the team had ample opportunities to get important tips and pointers whilst surfing.
