Hearings concluded on photographer, risk-taker Joseph Cockle

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 January, 2014 -- Adventurous and admired photographer Joseph Cockle drowned while trying to capture footage of an underwater whirlpool last year.

Cockle, a daredevil photographer from Cornwall, was wearing a plastic horse prop on his head while attempting to get close-up footage of the tidal phenomenon at Hayle Estuary.

Cockle and a friend went to the Carnsew Pool at the Hayle Estuary in Cornwall of May 28th of last year. His friend was filming with a second camera from the bank, while Cockle was sucked into the whirlpool and drowned.

Although he was pulled out of the water alive, and attemps were made to revive him on-scene he was later pronounced dead after being life-flighted to Royal Cornwall Hospital. In a statement after the hearing, his mother said, "In his short lifetime Jacob lived life to its fullest. He achieved more than most people can only dream about."

"He saw no danger in either people or situations. Jacob was a free spirit."
