Sally Fitzgibbons runs just about everywhere
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 May, 2014 - The mighty Aussie surf charger Sally Fitzgibbons is safely through to Round 3 of the Billabong Rio Pro. She’s one of the fittest and sportiest girls on the ASP Women’s World Tour, not surprising considering she gave up a promising track and field career to become a surfer.
With our fitness cap firmly in place, we chat best places she’s run, best sports to improve your surfing, motivation and how the best exercise advice she ever had came from Martina Navratilova
"There are so many amazing places I’ve run. I use it to sightsee when I’m visiting any new country or landscape. It’s hard to single out just one, but a few of my favourites would be the wilderness of Tasmania in Australia or Nova Scotia, when I was running in the snow up in the north."
"The Jurassic Park Valley in Hawaii was incredible, as was the deserted island I was on in Mexico, which had one crazy peak that I would run up. I’ve also run in France, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, South Africa, the Maldives, Indonesia, the Great Wall of China, Fiji, Tahiti, New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, Barbados, Puerto Rico, California, New York, the Azores, and right the way around beautiful Australia. "
"It really brings back memorable moments, having run in all these places around the world," Sally continues.
"My favourite form of exercise is… anything and everything. I love it all! It gives me amazing positive endorphins and if it’s a new sport or exercise I enjoy I even more, it’s really exciting for me to challenge myself and push myself to the limits. I really revel in a good challenge."
