Bleakley will lecture and coordinate for Cultural Tourism BA degree
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 December, 2013 - Former European Longboard Champion, surf travel writer and surfExplore member Sam Bleakley has been appointed Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator on a pioneering new Cultural Tourism BA (Hons) degree at Falmouth University in Cornwall, UK, launching in September 2014.
This exciting practice based degree explores tourist activity inspired by the sports, creative, arts and heritage sectors. Part of the degree will study contemporary themes in surf tourism with business partners The Wave UK, Kwepuhna Surf Retreat Liberia, Zeds Surf Adventures Barbados, Ticket to Ride and The Museum of British Surfing.
With its leading role in coastal sports, consistent waves, rich tradition of creative events, wealth of heritage-based attractions, and five million visitors a year, Cornwall is a fantastic place to study Cultural Tourism Management. The mission is to empower entrepreneurial management practitioners to produce brilliant work that adds value to business and society, locally and globally.
Sam explains that, “activity-based learning with experts in the field will allow students to develop confidence, identity and style, with culturally and ecologically sensitive leadership abilities and team approaches. Importantly, graduates will be prepared for entrepreneurial careers in surf tourism and cultural tourism management.”
