San Diego Surf Festival anounces lineup of films, artists, and filmmakers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 May, 2015 - La Jolla, San Diego - From May 20 - 23, the San Diego Surf Film Festival will be rolling through La Jolla, with an exciting lineup of international surf films, as well as guest appearances by the film's stars and creators.
The SDSFF will be held at the Sherwood Auditorium, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. One of the largest surf film festivals in the world, the SDSFF will include live art events, special photography presentation and workshop, Sonny Miller tribute, live music, beach clean-up, and special farm-to-table event.
Below is a breakdown of all the activities happening during SDSFF 2015:
Wed., May 20, 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.: VIP kick off party at Green Flash Brewing Co. Tasting Room in Mira Mesa.
In San Diego, surf-inspired beers are not a novel concept, but Green Flash Brewing Cois fully embracing the iconic surf culture by partnering with the San Diego Surf Film Festival this year. The award-wining, San Diego-based brewery will host the SDSFF 2015 VIP party May 20 at its Mira Mesa Tasting Room from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
During the VIP Party and festival, Green Flash will serve its recently debuted surf inspired brew, Soul Style IPA. The name “Soul Style” refers to the artful grace of the rarely seen, soul style surfer who leans way back on the board, making each difficult maneuver appear effortless.
Besides locally-brewed beer, SDSFF VIP party-goers will enjoy eats from the Green Flash Brewing Company Food Truck, as well as food from Daphne’s California Greek, a selection short surf films, and live art by SDSFF artists Skye Walker, Matt Beard,Nathan Ledyard, Heather Ritts, Paul Elder (artist for Ballast Point Brewing Company), and Keith Boyd. The SDSFF will also give away a brand new Patagonia wetsuit to some lucky winner during the party.
Thursday, May 21, 6 p.m.- 10 p.m., Sherwood Auditorium, Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla.: Opening Night of the SDSFF, which will include a special tribute to late cinematographer and San Diego's own Sonny Miller, films, food from Daphne’s California Greek, and beer from Green Flash. Live music by The Saline Solutions. Filmmakers and surfing icons will be in attendance
Friday, May 22: 9 a.m 11 a.m., La Jolla Cove In Plein Air: Onsite Painting Demonstration. This is a FREE event and open to the public.
Come watch some of California’s finest coastal plein air artists.
Ask questions, enjoy the view and just have an overall great morning. Part of the proceeds of all artwork sold will benefit H2O Trash Patrol.

Friday, May 22, 4 p.m. – 11 p.m., Sherwood Auditorium, MCASD, La Jolla: Will include a night of stellar surf films, art, food and beer.
Saturday, May 23, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Cardiff State Beach: Beach and Lagoon cleanup headed by H2O Trash Patrol. Meet at Patagonia Cardiff at 8:30 a.m. for snacks and refreshments before heading down to the beach. H2O tent will be set-up just South of the river mouth at Cardiff Reef.
Saturday, May 23, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.: Sherwood Auditorium, MCASD La Jolla.: In-Depth Photo Presentation by Chris Burkard. A breathtaking presentation by one of the surf industry's leading photgraphers.
Saturday, May 23, 8p.m. -11p.m.: Closing Night & Awards Ceremony, Congratulations go out to all the SDSFF 2015 filmmakers but who will take the top awards? This is where we are going to find find out. Live music by the Montalban Quintet.
This special event will include amazing films, food, beer and the SDSFF 2015 awards ceremony.
Sunday, May 24, 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.: Special Farm-to-Chopsticks Close-Out Party, 3603 Fortuna Ranch Road, Encinitas, CA, 92024. This event will include organic food prepared by Chef Lan Thai (Drunken Master Chef), beer pairing by Green Flash Brewing Co., live music and art, and select films from the SDSFF.
