Eighty five surfers brave the elements at inaugural event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 September, 2015 - Eighty five young surfers drawn from eight Outreach organisations that use surfing to change the lives of children in marginalised communities, braved the elements with enthusiasm as they took part in the inaugural Share the Stoke Outreach Surfing Games at Muizenberg Corner Sunday.

Despite the inclement weather and the tough onshore conditions the participants surfed the tag team contest with gusto and did not stop cheering their teammates until the final siren sounded.

The event was the brainchild of Rory Heard of Share the Stoke Foundation and was presented in partnership with Surfing South Africa. In addition to generous support from Reef Wetsuits and approved as an SSA project by Sport and Recreation SA, the Tag Team contest formed part of the Earthwave Beach Festival which is held in Muizenberg each year.

Fourteen teams made of five surfers each competed for gold medals and five Firewire Surfboards which were gifted by the Share the Stoke Foundation. In addition teams competed for the  Team Spirit Award which would go to the team which showed the most support and enthusiasm for their teammates on the day.

The event was coordinated and run by Danielle Johnson, Barbara Johnson and Mark Powiss of Johnsons Surf School who made sure that every surfer who took part was recognised.

After a long day the results were announced and honours went the way of Taswell Louw, Mbuso Zozi,Yusrah Noordien,Damien Gertze and Lolly Williams. They were closely followed by the team of Paul Sampson Chudleigh,Nathan Perris,Rashied Gordon, Daryl Barnes and Clio Smith.
