SIMA Humanitarian Fund Adopts Liquid Nation Ball From the Aguerre Brothers

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 February, 2006 : - - ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (February 8, 2006) – The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) is happy to announce the adoption of the Liquid Nation Ball as the main fundraising event for the newly established SIMA Humanitarian Fund. Mark your calendars now for Liquid Nation Ball 2006 on Saturday, September 9, in LaJolla, Calif., on the second night of the ASR show.

The Liquid Nation Ball was the original idea of Santiago Aguerre and was created to focus the   industry in a humanitarian direction. Along with his brother, Fernando, the founders of Reef began Liquid Nation Ball in 2004 as a fundraiser for SurfAid International. The 2005 event attracted 450 VIP attendees at the ocean-front residence of Fernando and raised $250,000 through the auction of numerous collector surfboards and surf trips.

The SIMA Humanitarian Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, has officially adopted the Liquid Nation Ball from the Aguerre brothers. Proceeds of the event will now be distributed in the form of grants to an expanded list of surf or boardsport related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations whose efforts are focused on improving the quality of life, health and/or welfare of people.

“SIMA is stoked to have adopted a fantastic party that fits perfectly with the goal of the SIMA Humanitarian Fund,” said Dick Baker, chairman of the SIMA Humanitarian Fund and president of Op. “The SIMA Humanitarian Fund is SIMA’s response to the continued compassion expressed by the surf industry for surf-related humanitarian causes over the past several years.

The vibe of the Liquid Nation Ball has exemplified this compassion. The Aguerre brothers have graciously allowed us adopt the event and SIMA’s intent is to keep the Liquid Nation Ball as people have come to know and enjoy it – as a relaxed yet must-attend party for the who’s who of the surf industry. SIMA will be working hard over the next few months to create an awesome event that is unlike any other SIMA event.”

The 2006 Liquid Nation Ball will be held at Fernando’s home in LaJolla, Calif., featuring one of the best private vintage surfboard collections in the world, exotic food, open bars and an incredible night of entertainment and live music. Following in Liquid Nation tradition, a highlight of the party will be a brief live auction emceed by the Aguerre brothers featuring collector surfboards, some personally signed by attending pros, exclusive surf trips and more.

“Fernando and I are proud of the success Liquid Nation has experienced in the past two years and the reputation and vibe associated with the party,” said Santiago Aguerre. “Reaching out to help other human beings is a must for successful individuals. Doing it while having a great time is our Latin way of saying ‘thank you surfing.’

We are confident SIMA will continue to raise the bar on Liquid Nation with the benefit of their industry event planning expertise. We are pleased that the proceeds will now help even more humanitarian causes close to the surf industry.” Look for more information about the Liquid Nation Ball and 2006 SIMA Humanitarian Fund beneficiaries in the coming months.
