Skullcandy Oz Grom Open
World Surf League Junior Qualifying Series Event
Lennox Head, NSW Australia
5 - 8 July 2015
Organizers will monitor area for the next 24 hours
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 July, 2015 - Lennox Head - Due to a shark incident near Lennox Head this morning, Skullcandy Oz Grom Open presented by Coolridge contest organisers have decided to put the event on hold today until conditions are determined safe to recommence.
Skullcandy Oz Grom Open Event Organiser Cameron Lindsay stated: “Due to a surfer being knocked from his board by a shark this morning at nearby Lennox Point, the event committee, Surf Life Saving and the police have made the decision to put the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open on hold for the rest of the day. Aerial and water surveillance was conducted early this morning with the area deemed safe to run, however in light of this second shark incident in 24 hours we feel it would be unsafe to continue to run today."
“We will continue to monitor the beaches in the Ballina Shire, both from the air and the water over the course of the next 24 hours and make the safest call for all competitors tomorrow morning.”
All beaches in the Ballina Shire will remain closed for the next 24 hours. An updated schedule and format will be uploaded to skullcandyozgromopen.com.au shortly.
The six-day event will see over 300 competitors duke it out in under-12, under-14 and under-16 divisions as well as a prestigious World Surf League (WSL) Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event.
All event divisions will be broadcast live on skullcandyozgromopen.com.au.
