Event hosts bodysurf, handplane, paipo, alaia, bodyboard and more
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 June, 2014 - June 22nd 2014 sees the second annual Slyder Cup, presented by Reef, hit the UK. Bringing together the alternative breed of surfers, The Slyder Cup is a one-day surf competition – a Summer Solstice friction affliction convention - that celebrates the art of wavesliding from a ‘finless’ perspective with an emphasis on good vibes, good rides and good times.
The competition held at Porthtowan, Cornwall is broken into 4 classes: body surf / handplane; paipo / bellyboard; surf mat and alaia with a winner in each. The Grand Final will see the winners go head to head in a surf-off and the Slyder Cup Champion 2014 crowned. In this event it not about how hard you can shred the gnar, it’s about the style of your glide, your skill on your slyde and the laying of your lines... Entry is open to all but places are limited and available online on a first come, first serve basis.
Showcasing the diversity and creativity that exists in surfing, alongside is a ‘Run What You Brung’ expression session where anything goes – the only limit on what you can ride is in the parameters of your skill and imagination. Entry at the beach on the day.
Part competition, part social gathering shapers from across the waveriding spectrum will have craft available to test drive so if you’ve always mithered over a mat, pined for a paipo or hankered after a handplane, now is your chance to give them a go. There will also be goodies available to buy on the day from boards and fins to limited edition Tees, mugs and posters. We are also hosting an exclusive screening of ‘De Passage’ in conjunction with Reef at The Blue Bar, Porthtowan so slyders steel yourselves for a salty-good Summer Solstice celebration!
