Hurricane swell could light up the finals this week

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 September, 2016 - The Hurley Pro and Swatch Women’s Pro at Trestles have been called OFF for the day due to small and inconsistent two-to-four foot surf on offer at Lower Trestles.

“It is super windy and all of those beautiful conditions that we have had so far for this event are not there,” WSL Deputy Commissioner, Jessi Miley-Dyer, said. “We are going to be off for today. We are still looking at that hurricane swell and we will cross our fingers that it comes in either tomorrow or Thursday.”

Event officials will reconvene tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. local time for a possible 8:00 a.m. start.

With the field narrowed to only four men and four women, the stage is set for an exciting final day of competition.

When competition resumes, Men’s Semifinal 1 will witness two of the most in-form surfers with Jordy Smith (ZAF) up against Filipe Toledo (BRA) for a spot in the Finals. The two CT heavyweights will go all out to take home the event win.

Event wildcard and hometown hero Tanner Gudauskas (USA) will meet 2012 WSL Champion Joel Parkinson (AUS) in the Second Semifinal match-up.

Current Jeep Rankings Leader Tyler Wright (AUS) will have to maintain her incredible performances against California-native Sage Erickson (USA) in the first women’s Semifinal.

Six-time WSL Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) will try to take out compatriot Nikki Van Dijk (AUS) for an opportunity to secure her first Finals appearance of the 2016 season.

The event is also being carried by the WSL's LIVE broadcast partners Fox Sports Australia, CBS Sports in the United States, ESPN Brasil, Globosat in Brazil, Edgesport, Sky NZ, Sport TV in Portugal, Canal + Deportes in Spain, Channel Nine, MCS France, Starhub in Singapore, and Oceanic Time Warner Cable 250 & 1250 in Hawaii.
