Surf spots between Christies Beach and Moana will be protected and celebrated
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 March, 2015 - South Adelaide, Australia - After a year-long campaign to have the area declared a Regional Surfing reserve, The Mid Coast Surfing Comittee got good news last week: "the 9 kilometer stretch betwen Christie's Beach and Moana will be conserved as a "place of environment, heritage, sporting and cultural value," according to Australia's News.com.
In the report, MCSC's chairwoman, Su Bennet said the national committee was impressed by the support the community had shown for the proposal, not to mention it having support from three levels of government.
Last year's WSL Rookie of the Year (the only 2014 rookie), Dion Atkinson—who grew up in Seaford—has signed on as the reserve's ambassador. The report quotes Atkinson as saying "I trained my whole life there, so I have that beautiful part of the world to thank for the job I have right now."
MCSC plans to hold an event in the next year to celebrate the achievement.
