South African Surfer Drowns After Heart Attack

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 September, 2006 : - - A man has died of a heart attack while surfing at uShaka Beach in Durban. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says the man told other surfers that he had chest pains while surfing yesterday afternoon.

Shortly thereafter, he slumped over his surf board unconscious. The surfers placed him on a board and paddled towards shore, while attracting the attention of the lifeguards on duty.

Rescue services were alerted, but despite efforts to resuscitate him, the 49-year-old man was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
