 Captain Luke Bugg leads team to National Final

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 December, 2013 - Tasmania - South Arm Boardriders have won a spot in the National Final of the Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle, following a win at the Tasmanian State round of the prestigious club series in the Clifton Beach area over the weekend.

Two clubs - South Arm Boardriders (Clifton area) and North East Boardriders (Scamander) – contested for the one spot on offer in the National Final taking place in Cronulla, Sydney, on the Australia Day long weekend.

With light onshore winds and two foot waves on offer, South Arm Boardriders Captain Luke Bugg led his team of James Fasnacht, James Eaves, Brooke Mason, Chris Potter, Lizzie Stokely and Kelly Nordstrom to victory. 

In total, South Arm accrued 4,700 points to finish ahead of North East, who camed second with 3,920.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle national series is the biggest grassroots, boardriders club event in Australian surfing history with the country’s best clubs competing for over $100,000 in prize money. The series culminates in Cronulla with 16 qualifying clubs from each State battling for the top honour.

Tasmania’s best surfing talent was on show with a host of competitors from the recent Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles also backing-up to represent their clubs.
Teams must consist of seven competitors: two juniors (one male and one female), four opens (three males and one female) and one Over 35 (male or female), who will battle it out in a pairs division, five person teams division and skins division in a unique and exciting format.
In total, $105,000 is up for grabs across the entire National Series including the National Final. There is $30,000 available across the seven State qualifying events, while $75,000 will be split between the 16 clubs that make the National Final.
The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle also includes a Monster Raffle giveaway with one lucky ticket holder to drive away in a new Toyota RAV4. Other prizes include a Billabong pack valued at more than $1500 and a Nikon 1 AW1 camera valued at up to $1000. The Monster Raffle is open to all Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs with proceeds returning to the boardriders club community.
The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle is proudly supported by Be the Influence – Tackling Binge Drinking, Billabong, Toyota, Nikon, Milwaukee, Surfing Australia and the Association of Surfing Professionals.
