Steinlager Shaka Longboard Series Event #5 goes off at Kuhio Beach

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 September, 2007 : - - The final event on the Steinlager Shaka Longboard series wrapped up over the weekend at Kuhio Beach in Waikiki with shoulder high surf coming through the Queen's surf break.

Although not the wave heights competitors were hoping for, there were definitely enough to go around throughout the weekend and a wrap up to the summer long series which actually started on the north shore of Oahu at Sunset Beach and made it's way through the south shore breaks of Fly's in Kaakako, Queen's and Ala Moana.

In the Menehune division, Nelson Ahina took top honors and along the way won the over all title. Geodee Clark in the Junior Wahine did the same with smooth traditional  surfing mixed in with some progressive turns and maneuvers.

The pro competition had Hawaii's top longboards doing battle and although the number one and two rated surfers, Isaac Kaneshiro and Duane DeSoto went head to head for the overall title, it was Keegan Edwards from Honolulu winning the event. Desoto however ended up second, and took the top overall honors with a slim margin over Kaneshiro (third) who lead the division since day one. Ned Snow rounded out the field in fourth place.

As for the Steinlager Shaka Longboard Series, Queen's was a fitting end to a long summer season. Shaka to Steinlager.
