Quiksilver Pro Saquarema

WSL QS 10,000
Praia de Itauna, Rio de Janeiro Brazil
6 - 10 May 2015

Forecast remains favorable for completion of the event on Sunday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 May, 2015 - Itauna Beach, Saquarema - On Friday, a strong cold front descended upon Praia de Itauna and forced event organizers to call a lay day at the 2015 World Surf League QS 10,000 Quiksilver Pro Saquarema presented by Powerade.

Despite a significant increase in swell, conditions in transition proved to be too inconsistent. The decision was made to postpone competition until tomorrow (Saturday) for a 6:30 am call. The forecast remains favorable for completion of the event on Sunday.

Out of the initial 96 surfers, only 36 remain in contention for the U$ 40,000 in prize money and 10,000 points valid towards the WSL Qualifying Series rankings. The Quiksilver Pro Saquarema is the 2nd of 9 events marked with a QS 10,000 status. Only the Top-10 surfers on the QS ranking will qualify for the 2016 Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour.

On Thursday, competition at the Quiksilver Pro Saquarema ran until completion of Heat 6 in Round 2. The international field of athletes contains representatives from 11 countries including: Australia, Brazil, the United States, Portugal, France, Japan, New Zealand, Costa Rica and Tahiti.

Action will continue tomorrow (Saturday) in the Round of 48. Michael Wright (AUS), Nic Von Rupp (PRT), Hiroto Ohhara (JPN) and Adam Melling (AUS) will be the first heat in the water when competition continues. Other notable surfers like Jack Freestone (AUS), Italo Ferreira (BRA), Dusty Payne (HAW), Jeremy Flores (FRA), Carlos Munoz (CRI) and defending event winner, Wiggolly Dantas (BRA) will battle it out to see who will advance in competition at the 2015 Quiksilver Pro Saquarema.
