Kennedy has taken up a role as Surfing NSW ambassador for 2016
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 March, 2016 - Sydney - Lennox Head local and World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) replacement surfer Stuart Kennedy has joined Surfing NSW as an ambassador for the entirety of 2016.
Over the course of the year, Kennedy will work on junior development pathways, guest commentate at events, assist at Surfing NSW coaching camps and promote the Surfing NSW competitive pathway.
Over the last decade Kennedy has remained a force to be reckoned with, dominating the Australasian WSL Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) and finishing 12th on the 2015 WSL Qualifying Series (QS), just one spot away from the WSL Championship Tour (CT).
Kennedy will make his first appearance as a replacement surfer at this week’s Quiksilver Pro CT event at Snapper Rocks, coming in as a replacement for the injured Bede Durbidge.
Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon has witnessed Stu’s progress over the last decade and is thrilled to have him on board as ambassador.
“Over the years Stu is just one of many surfers who have completed the entire pathway from regional and state title events, as well as boardrider club rounds with Le-Ba boardriders, to go through Pro Junior events, QS events - like the Carve Pro and Komunity Project Great Lakes Pro - and now is surfing on the CT.”
Kennedy is eager for the chance to give back to the sport and state body that gave him so many opportunities as a promising junior surfer.
“Some of my fondest memories were competing in Surfing NSW state title and Pro Junior events, so it’s a great honour to give back to kids who were doing the same thing I was over a decade ago. With any luck, a lot of this next generation will go on to qualify for the CT in the coming years.”
