SunSmart School Surfing Titles help reach higher levels of competition
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 July, 2014 - Excitement is building in classrooms and playgrounds across WA as the 2014 SunSmart WA School Surfing Titles approaches a start. Kicking off regionally next Monday and traveling around the state for two weeks before culminating with the State Final at Trigg Beach on Friday August 22nd.
The SunSmart School Surfing Titles is one of Surfing WA’s largest participation based events of the year, with an estimated 600 plus secondary students set to pull on wetsuits and take part in the five regional and five metropolitan qualifying zones.
Over 100 metropolitan and regional high schools have been invited to compete in the annual event which encourages participation in surfing and bodyboarding in the modern school curriculum.
As surfing continues to grow in popularity, more and more schools are incorporating the sport into their outdoor physical education programs, in turn increasing the demand for interschool surfing competition.
The SunSmart School Surfing Titles offers a unique opportunity for students, both male and female, to surf and bodyboard with their peers in a safe, relaxed and fun environment.

The SunSmart School Surfing Titles provide a unique stepping stone for students to reach higher levels of competition after having completed learn to surf and advanced surfing courses through Surfing WA and it's thirteen licensed surf schools around the state.
“The School Titles are a great chance for us to engage with kids who actively surf and are interested in developing their skills further," said Surfing WA Events Manger Justin Majeks. "We have a great relationship with many of the coastal high schools and the chance for kids to compete in a surf event during a school day is something they all really enjoy."
Each competing school can field a team of two surfers and bodyboarders in junior and senior divisions, with the winning teams from each regional and metro qualifying event then meeting at the State Final at Trigg Beach to decide the 2014 WA Champion Surfing School.
For surfers, the Australian School Surfing Association (ASSA) competitions have been running for over 20 years are now a recognised division at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles. This allows students from across the country to represent their schools and their state whilst competing for a prestigious school surfing title at a National Titles in Yallingup in December.
