Subway Surf Camp

9 - 10 February, 2016

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 February, 2016 - Coolangatta - Australian World Surf League Championship Tour surfers Joel Parkinson and Laura Enever will mentor the next batch of up and coming Aussie junior competitors at a three day Subway® Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC), which starts on Tuesday 9th February.

Surfing Australia invites you to attend the Subway® Surf Camp, the peak event of the Subway® Surf Series with special guests and Subway® Surf Series ambassadors Joel Parkinson and Laura Enever.

The winners of the three non-qualifying events in the Subway® Surf Series across 18 and under and 16 and under girls and boys divisions, will participate in a unique opportunity at the Subway® Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre at Casuarina.

During the camp the group of 12 male and female groms will be honing their skills through surfing and video analysis, competition strategies and coaching at the AIS Surf Skate Training Facility.  What sets this camp apart for the groms is the mentoring from HPC coaching staff, Parkinson and Enever, every step of the way. Adding to the high stakes is the Best Performing Award, with $1,000 from Subway® Restaurants to be given to the top male and female surfers respectively as chosen by Enever and Parkinson.

“I embrace the opportunity to play a role in the Subway(R) Surf Camp for these up and coming groms who performed so well in the Subway® Surf Series.  It’s exciting to be part of events like this giving groms that extra edge next time they compete,” Joel Parkinson said. The Subway® Pro Junior events, which includes 18 and under boys and girls divisions, form part of the 2016 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title, at the WSL World Junior Championships in early 2017.
Proudly supported by WSL, Surfing Australia and Billabong, the Subway® Surf Series was created to fill a competition void which exists at a crucial point in the development of Australia’s leading junior surfers. It represents an important link in the ‘pathway to the podium’ developed by Surfing Australia, with surfers now able to progress from the Weet-Bix SurfGroms program, onto the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps, into the Subway® Surf Series, followed by the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle.
2012 WSL Men’s World Champion Joel Parkinson and WSL World Tour female competitor Laura Enever are ambassadors for the Subway® Surf Series, attending events and mentoring junior surfers.
