Event number 2 get's underway on the Sunshine Coast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 June, 2014 - Sunshine Coast, Queensland - Queensland’s elite surfing talent will take to the water’s of the Sunshine Coast this weekend to compete in the second, and final event of the HIF Masters and Women’s State Surfing Series.

The HIF Masters and Women’s State Surfing Series comprises of two events and forms the exclusive qualification pathway for Queensland’s best surfers from the Open Women and Masters divisions to represent Queensland at the Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour this August.  A wildcard entry into the trials of the 2015 Roxy Pro World Tour event on the Gold Coast will be awarded to the 2014 Open Women’s state champion which will ensure a fierce level of competition.

The series culminates this weekend on the Sunshine Coast following a fiercely contested opening round on the Gold Coast, which witnessed standout performances across the board, particularly in the blue ribbon Over 35 Men’s division. Sunshine Coast surfer Dave Reardon-Smith defeated Mark Richardson (Palm Beach, QLD) to strike the first blow of the series recently on the Gold Coast.  

Reardon-Smith was delighted with the win stating, “It was great to post a win against Mark,who is a multiple Australian Title winner and I’m certainly confident leading into this weekend’s event.”

Surfing Queensland Events Manager Adam Yates is optimistic about this weekend’s forecast and excited about the surfing talent competing. “A clean 1 metre Easterly swell is expected this weekend, which suits the world class beach breaks offered by the Sunshine Coast.”

“The level of surfing talent witnessed in the first round indicates that Queensland will field an extremely competitive team to take on the rest of the nation at the Australian Surf Festival.”

This weekend, two surfers will also have the chance to take home $250 in prize money by winning the HIF ‘Wave of the Weekend’ which is awarded to the highest single wave score posted and is open to all Men’s and Women’s divisions. The HIF Queensland Masters and Women’s State surfing series caters for female surfers ranging from under 16 girls to Over 35 Women and Over 35 Men to Over 55 Men.

The HIF Masters and Women’s State Surfing series is proudly supported by, HIF, Be the influence, Coastalwatch Plus, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, World Surfaris, Chiko, the Queensland Government, and Surfing Queensland.
