World Series Contenders to step up at Stop 7

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 August, 2013 : - - After 2 dramatic City stops in 2 weeks (Hamburg and Chicago), the Stand Up World Series is now headed to San Francisco this weekend for Stop number 7, the AC Open, integrated into the world famous America's Cup of Sailing at Marina Green.

With yet another breathtaking backdrop, the World Series will witness amongst the World's very best paddlers battle it out in front of record crowds all weekend long here at the America's Cup site, as it all comes down to the wire on the Stand Up World Series on the second stop on the US Trilogy of events.

World Series front runners Connor Baxter (Starboard) and Kai Lenny (Naish) will once again match up coming off another intense battle at the last stop in Hamburg. While Connor is currently the yellow jersey holder with his ratings lead, Kai Lenny is right on his heels, with multiple single discipline wins against Connor this year and a clean sweep at the Hamburg stop of the Tour just under 2 weeks ago.

One thing is for sure, it will be a battle for the ages once again this weekend. From Kody Kerbox (Naish), Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) and Eric Terrien (Bic SUP), to Noa Ginella (Naish), Ryan Helm, Chase Kosterlitz (Fanatic) and Brennan Rose (Rogue), the competition here at the AC Open hosted at the America's Cup will be intense, as we come into the closing stages of the 2013 season.

While Connor and Kai are battling it out for the top spot, it is still all to play for, with these two California stops leading into the prestigious World Championship Finals at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's fabled North Shore.

World Series Ratings leader Annabel Anderson (Starboard) will be met with fierce competition here in San Francisco, as leading US ladies stepping up to do battle will include Jenny Kalmbach (Naish), Gillian Gibree and Jen Lee amongst others.

Stay tuned as the women will be well represented here in San Francisco fo this historic event. The last 4 stops have provided some epic battles amongst the women's division, and here in San Francisco, it promises to be no different.

The AC Open welcomes both the elite athletes, but also open fleet paddlers looking to participate here in San Francisco, but not necessarily take on the full extent of the Long Distance Course and of course the very best athletes in the World!

With a 3.5 mile distance course that will take place front and center at the America's Cup Marina Green site, coupled with the World Series Sprint Racing that is open to all, there will be something for everyone here at Stop 7 of the Stand Up World Series in San Francisco.

After a high profile presentation in the morning on Saturday 30th at 10am, the long distance will take to the water at 2pm and for the Elite athletes, it will consist of a 7.5 mile course that will take in some of San Francisco's most striking and well known landmarks:

A start at Marina Green in front of the crowds at the America's Cup zone will see the athletes sprint down a first leg in front of the Stadium seating, to head out to the Golden Gate bridge, turn around the south tower and then head down to Alcatraz before turning back to Marina Green for a dramatic finish.

After another high profile presentation at 10am on Sunday 1st September in the morning, the World Series Sprint Course here in San Francisco will provide a dynamic showcase of the sport to an impressive on site and online audience. With stadium seating for up to 7,000 overlooking the sprint course, the athletes will be in the spotlight as they take on the heat format sprint racing at the America's Cup racing HQ at Marina Green.

Labor Day (Monday 2nd September) will see a series of Team Relays featuring celebrity athletes from across the different sporting worlds, as SUP once again takes center stage at the America's Cup.

From Oracle Captain Jimmy Spithill, to other members of the crew and athletes from different sporting realms, stay tuned for a sporting showdown of epic proportions.

We are proud to announce that PUMA will host a major welcome event for all athletes and the SUP community at their HQ in AC Park on Saturday 31st August from 5.30pm. With food, drink and music, PUMA will open their arms to the SUP community and celebrity athletes as history is once again made here on the Stand Up World Series.

PUMA will also be hosting the west coast Premiere of 'The Starboad Movie': with many of the Movie's stars in attendance and on site for poster signings and Q&As at the PUMA site in AC Park.

The Movie screening will take place on the big screen in AC Park at 6pm on Sunday evening, with poster signings starting at 5.30pm and PUMA's hospitality on hand for a special evening for all, so make sure not to miss it.
