Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 July, 2015 - The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro will serve as the lone women’s WSL qualifying event scheduled in the U.S. for the 2015 season and plays a critical role for surfers looking to solidify their position on the 2016 WSL Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT).
“With the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro currently representing the only women’s qualifying event in the U.S., this contest is extremely important in the girls' qualification process for next year’s WCT,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL Women’s Tour Manager.
Some of the world-class surfers registered to compete include Alana Blanchard (Kauai, HI), Lakey Peterson (Santa Barbara, CA), Malia Manuel (Kauai, HI), Coco Ho (Oahu, HI), Laura Enever (Sydney), Johanne Defay (Le Puy-en-Velay, France), Nikki Van Dijk (Victoria, Australia), Pauline Ado (Bayonne, France), Tatiana Weston-Webb (Kauai, HI), and 2014 Supergirl Pro Champion, Sage Erickson (Malibu, CA).
”I can’t begin to explain how excited all of the girls are about this event,” said Malia Manuel, the 7th ranked surfer in the world and the 2013 Supergirl Pro champion. “It’s so amazing to have a contest like this in the US that focuses entirely on women’s surfing. I've been to the event every year, and it gets bigger and better each time.”
In addition to the best surfing talent in the world, the Supergirl Pro features an action-packed Festival Village with live bands, comedy, art, yoga, fitness, dance, female surf films, seminars, autographs from the pros, free hair styling by Paul Mitchell, celebrities, skateboarding, a food truck experience and many other activities. The entertainment and music lineup slated for the Festival Village will be announced at a later date.
"We are really pleased about the expansion of the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro in 2015, both in and out of the water," said Rick Bratman, CEO of ASA Entertainment, the event’s management company and one of the leading producers of action sports event and television programming in the US. "Last year it was the largest female event in WSL history and we anticipate smashing that record again in 2015. We are proud to have supported women’s surfing for nine years and to have provided a platform for important causes such as sustainability and breast cancer awareness.”
“Paul Mitchell is thrilled to be involved with such an amazing group of women, and we are proud to have the largest field of talent in women’s surfing competing at our event,” said Julie Solwold, Vice President of Global Sports and Events at John Paul Mitchell Systems. “These girls have style, grace, beauty and athleticism that align perfectly with our brand, and we are excited to help them gain much-deserved exposure for their sport.”
“The Supergirl S-Shield is the universally recognized symbol of strength and empowerment and is the perfect icon to represent this inspiring event,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We are excited to be back for the 9th year of the series to celebrate these surfing super heroes.”
The event will run on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 8a - 3:15p PST.
