Florida boy battling cancer gets wish granted at Surf Expo
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 January, 2014 -- Surf Expo exhibitor, beachTuff, led the charge to grant the wish of a custom surfboard to Logan, a local Florida boy battling cancer, at Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.
Julie Weldon, Founder and President of beachTuff, worked with Surf Expo and the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) to arrange for a custom surfboard from Rusty Surfboards. Rusty’s founder, Rusty Preisendorfer, even made a special trip out from California to fit Logan for his custom board.
“At the heart of our mission with beachTuff is to give back, which is why we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Make-A-Wish to help grant Logan and his family’s wish,” noted Julie Weldon of beachTuff.
“In addition to having great conversations with buyers at Surf Expo, the highlight of my day yesterday was getting to spend time with everyone involved with this awesome experience. We really appreciate the efforts made by the Surf Expo team in helping to pull this all together!”
With video cameras and photographers following Logan and his family, news of the granted wish spread fast across the show floor.
In addition to Rusty Surfboards, Surf Expo exhibitors Salt Life, Body Glove, Dakine, Globe, Smith Optics, and Surf Bandz donated products to Logan as well.
Surf Expo’s Show Director Roy Turner added “ It’s so great to see our industry come together to make Logan’s wish come true. To have this happen at Surf Expo was truly unique and heartwarming experience. “
Chris Quarles, Board Chair for Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Florida said, “It is always a joy to have communities, such as the members of Surf Expo, bring their considerable talents and expertise in support of our children’s heartfelt wishes. We at Make-A-Wish know that it is through the generosity of others that we have the honor of providing our families with special moments.”
beachTuff is continuing their mission to grant additional kids’ surfing and beach related wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Learn more at beachtuff.com.
