Surf stylist Julie Cox digs in at California Surf Museum

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 March, 2009 : - - It's one thing to have your hobby, your job, and your lifestyle all complement each other like neighboring hues on a color wheel. It's another thing to do it on water and on land like pro surfer Julie Cox.

She's ripped her way through surf contests. She's got a full-time job at the California Surf Museum. Then there's her custom-made surfboard line, The Jule Collection, for cruising along waves like a gliding gem. For everyone who's ever thought you can't make a living doing what you love, read on.

Name:
Julie Cox

Hometown:
I live in Oceanside. I grew up in Agoura Hills.

Age:
28

Your surf motto?
I am constantly humbled, amazed, inspired, refreshed (and on and on and on) by riding waves and being in the ocean. I feel absolutely blessed to have surfing in my life.

Now boil that down to two words.
Pure joy.

How do you pay the bills? Do you live like a monk?
After many years balancing surf coaching, massage therapy, professional surfing, I needed something more consistent and found a job at the California Surf Museum in Oceanside last April. I just became the Operations Manager and am now with the museum full time, so that is my main gig right now.

What's the best thing in the California Surf Museum?
I love the maps, books, John Severson movie posters, and recycled resin jewelry. There's a ton of fun art prints too.
