Charity event gives locals a shot at empty Bells
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 August, 2013 : - - Surfing Victoria has announced the creation of a new event designed to engage with the local surfing community at Bells Beach.
The Team Up and Be the Influence Locals Charity Challenge is an event which allows local surfers to surf their home break with only a few people out and give back to one of three major charities. The event will run in conjunction with the Torquay Boardriders Club.
Teams will consist of 5 surfers who must all be from the 3228 area code and must have a combined age of 150 years. Each team must also have at least surfer who is over 50 years of age and one who is under 20 years of age.
The winning team will win $1000 cash which will be donated on their behalf to either Headspace (National Youth Mental Health Foundation), Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia or Ovarian Cancer Australia.
Surfing Victoria CEO, Max Wells, is excited about the prospect of seing the local surfers take apart the long Bells Beach walls.
"We really want to start engaging with the local surfers who may not be interested in the normal competitions, and this is a great way to bridge that initial gap."

Be the Influence - Tackling Binge Drinking is the Federal Government campaign addressing youth binge drinking and the influence of alcohol promotion on young Australians by promoting anti-binge drinking messaging through sport sponsorships.
The Team Up and Be the Influence Charity Challenge is proudly supported by VicHealth, Play it Safe by the Water, Surfing Victoria and Torquay Boardriders Club.
