Boys & Girls Club & Shaun Tomson raise $170k
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 May, 2014 - For immediate release. The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara held its annual Dinner and Auction “Surf’s Up for Kids” on Saturday, April 26th at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort. The Annual Auction Gala is the largest fundraising event of the year that benefits daily after-school, Saturday, school break, and summer youth programs.
The ‘Surf’s Up’ theme was inspired by Honorary Chair, Board Member, and Emcee, Shaun Tomson. Mr. Tomson has been successfully involved in projects ranging from founding two clothing brands, writing the book, Surfer’s Code and producing the documentary film, Bustin’ Down the Door.
Mr. Tomson has been described as one of the greatest surfers of all time (Surfing Magazine 2004) and one of the most influential surfers of the century (Surfer Magazine 1999). The event raised $170,000 to help the Club’s programs, which includes career & leadership development, fine arts, sports, recreation & fitness, education & career development, and health & life skills.
This year, the event committee took the entertainment to a new level, thanks to an entertainment sponsorship through Sonos. Reggae band, “One, Two, Tree” performed during the cocktail reception.
“Good Vibrations” performed surf music and hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s. “Good Vibrations” featured touring members from the band, Jan and Dean. “Hula Anyone” performed Polynesian dances to add to the surf-inspired theme.
Surf’s Up for Kids was presented by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and Lyons Family Foundation, and sponsored by Montecito Bank & Trust, and other valuable community partners included Tim & Louise Casey, David & Sherry Dominguez, Mari & Patrick McAllister, Hutton-Parker Foundation, Bruce Heavin & Lynda Weinman, Marborg, Union Bank, Wells Fargo, Casa Dorinda, Radius Group, Brown & Brown, and Sonos.
