Sleeman crowned Under 18 Boys champion

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 February, 2017 - Round one of the 2017 Victorian Junior Series presented by HIF Australia kicked off over the weekend in 2-3 foot surf at Smiths beach. The Under 18 Boys saw a new champion crowned with Taj Sleeman (Cape Paterson) taking out top honours with a total of 12.33 points (out of a possible 20).

“I was super stoked to win today, it was pretty hard conditions out there” said a thrilled Sleeman. “Hopefully I’m able to perform in the rest of the junior series events and make the state team.”
Kenta Fergusson (Jan Juc, 8.46pts) and Jett Dickson (St Andrews Beach, 7.74pts) took out second and third with Charlie Lucas (Pt Leo, 5.93pts) rounding out the final. Local knowledge helped Sophie Fletcher (Phillip Island) take her first ever junior series win in the Under 18 Girls with a total of 11.67pts.

“I’ve always come second ever since Under 14’s so its super exciting to finally come away with a win” said an elated Fletcher. “The conditions were super hard, any of the girls could have won I just found two waves that let me do a couple of turns.”
Lannia Fostin (Phillip Island, 10.90pts) and Daisy Corbett (Phillip Island, 5.27pts) took out second and third position, with Shayla Paterson (Phillip Island, 4.07pts) rounding out the final.

Xavier Huxtable (Jan Juc, 11.67pts) took out the Under 16 boys over Codie Jeffery (Phillip Island, 7.67pts) with Bodie Williams (Ocean Grove, 7.14pts) and Indi White (Jan Juc, 6.80pts) taking third and fourth place.

Arabella Wilson (Jan Juc, 8.40pts) took out the Under 16 girls over Sage Goldsbury (Phillip Island, 6.24pts) with Angelique Kefalas (Jan Juc, 5.33pts) and Lainie Paterson (Phillip Island, 2.84pts) coming in third and fourth.

The Under 14 Boys was a close affair with Ethan Huxtable (Jan Juc, 9.57pts) taking the win. Patrick Hughes (Jan Juc, 9.23pts) and Zeph Lamperd (Barwon Heads, 6.17pts) took out second and third with Lucas Hickson (Rye, 4.63pts) in fourth.

The Under 14 Girls was taken out by Poppy Corbett (Phillip Island, 6.00pts) over Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads, 4.46pts). Jazz Wylie (Jan Juc, 4.33pts) and Cielle Bouvier (Jan Juc, 3.57pts) taking third and fourth. Round Two of the series will be held on the Mornington Peninsula on February 25th & 26th.
