Team aims to take another World Junior Title
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 April, 2014 - Defending champions Travelsim Team Australia has made a strong start at the 2014 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Ecuador. The event at Salinas Beach has attracted more than 300 of the world’s best Under 18 and Under 16 surfers from 32 countries.
The opening day was greeted with a 2-4ft (1-1.5m) swell and competition was held in the Under 18 and Under 16 boys’ divisions with Travelsim Team Australia finishing the day with seven victories and a second from its eight heats for all surfers to advance to Round 2 of Qualifying.
In the Under 18 boys, Luke Hynd (Tallebudgera, QLD – 13.00), Monty Tait (Maroubra, NSW – 9.77), Cody Robinson (Jan Juc, VIC – 9.26) all won their heats, while Fraser Dovell (Avalon Beach, NSW – 8.00) finished second.
In the Under 16 boys, Shaun Manners (Margaret River, WA – 13.83) was the standout in the division with the day’s highest score, while Joe Van Dijk (Phillip Island, VIC – 11.00), Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD – 9.17) and Zac Wightman (Lennox Head, NSW – 9.00) also recorded victories.
Competition is scheduled to start in the girls’ Under 18 and Under 16 divisions on Day 2.
