Club shines with former World Tour surfers Troy Brooks & Nic Muscroft

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 September, 2015 - Jan Juc - Torquay Boardriders Club has taken their sixth consecutive Victorian Teams Title today at their home beach of Jan Juc. One of the most prestigious events in Victorian Surfing, the event has been running for over 30 years pitting club against club.

The event combines three divisions, Men’s Skins, Women’s and Teams requiring all clubs to have depth in their roster to take the win. Torquay Boardriders Club was dominant throughout the whole event at their home break winning all three of the divisions in A Grade.

Surfing with 2 former World Tour competitors, Troy Brooks and Nic Muscroft, Qualifying Series surfers, Cahill Bell-Warren and Jack Perry, as well as U16 Australian Team Member India Robinson, the team was hard to beat on paper and in the water.

“To win our sixth straight Victorian Teams Titles is really special. We had a really good turn out from our members which was great to see” said Club President Cahill Bell-Warren. “To win all three divisions, the Skins, Women’s and Team divisions, we couldn’t be prouder as a club.”

“Team surfing through Boardriders Clubs is a great way to unite a whole community and represent out town and beach. I know without this club a lot of us would not have the same friendships that we have today.”

Placing in second overall was 13th Beach Boardriders who started strong in the Teams division however could not score enough to outclass Torquay. Portland Boardriders Club placed in third position in front of Peninsula Surfriders Club in fourth.

In the B Grade division, it was newly formed South-West Boardriders Club who came way on top over Point Lonsdale Boardriders. The club from Warrnambool, started their first ever inter-club contest in blistering form winning the Men’s Skins division before taking out the Teams division.

South West Boardriders Club will now get the opportunity to surf in the A Grade division next year with Peninsula Surfriders Club being relegated to B Grade. The Victorian Teams Titles is Supported by TOLL, HIF (Health Insurance Fund Australia) and Play it Safe by the Water – Never Surf Alone.
