Leading junior surfers to compete at Watergate Bay

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 August, 2015 - Rip Curl’s search to find the ultimate junior surfers is coming to Watergate Bay on 15 and 16 August. In the final leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch UK tour, Surfing Great Britain joins forces with the Australian surf brand to find the top two male and female ‘groms', slang for young surfers.

Two days of competition will see the surfers with the best two results over the three events earn a ticket to the European finals. The winners will go on to the world finals, held in a mystery location.

Nick Rees from Surfing GB, which organises the event, said: “This event at Watergate Bay is the UK finale of a really exciting and enjoyable competition for both competitors and spectators.

“The standard of our surfers is impressive and we’re expecting a great turnout over the weekend from talented youngsters hoping to win a place in the European finals.”

The annual Rip Curl GromSearch spans 12 competitions in four European countries with Watergate Bay hosting the final round.

Entries in categories for under 16, under 14 and under 12 remain open until three days prior to the event and application forms can be downloaded from
