Taina Izquierdo enters three-year contract with the company
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 December, 2015 - Kuta Bali- Rip Curl announces the signing of Uluwatu’s 14 year old supergrom, Taina Izquierdo, to a three year professional contract.
“Taina has been showing the skill, the grit and the determination of a potential champion for years”, says Rip Curl SEA Team Manager Dylan Amar, “and her solid character in and out of the water is exactly what Rip Curl looks for in its team riders. She’s a perfect fit”.
Striking fear in the hearts of much older competitors for most of her budding career, surfing with a maturity far beyond her years, Taina is already a well-traveled threat. At 14yrs old a 2014 finalist against the older girls in Taiwan, this year almost taking the title of the Maldives Open against 22 year old multi-champion Rina Kitazawa and finishing the 2015 season third in the ASC women’s ranking's and second in the juniors, Taina is poised to be Indonesia’s first female competitor on the international stage.
“I plan on qualifying for the WCT and becoming Indonesia’s first Surfing World Champion” says a demure, but confident Taina, “and I draw a lot of inspiration for this from Bethany Hamilton. She inspires me to fight for the things I love. To never give up. She’s amazing. I can’t believe I am on the same team!”
“Taina will have her work cut out for her” Dylan Amar continues, “We demand excellence from our team members in every aspect, including their personal conduct. And in return they receive the best training and support in the world. Being a Rip Curl Team member alongside champions like Garut, Mick and Medina is no joke. It’s not just about winning, it’s about the right attitude and surfing with class”.
With skill and attitude to match, young Taina feels she is ready to take on the challenge “I fell in love with surfing the moment I first stood up on a surfboard”, Taina says, “and I am still pretty young with a lot to learn, but I am on my way. And with Rip Curl on my side now, well… the future is looking pretty bright to me!”
Just finishing up her eighth grade studies, this unstoppable dynamo is already the top contender for both the Juniors and Women’s division of the 2016 ASC Tour. Beyond that, the sky seems to be the limit for this young lady and her championship dreams.
