Vans Pledges $25,000 from Proceeds of Sandal to SurfAid to Provide New Medical Services in Mentawai Village of Pei Pei
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 February, 2007 : - - Los Angeles -- Take a Vans Santa Rosa sandal and add trippy original artwork by legendary surfer and artist Joel Tudor and you have the makings of a limited edition sandal benefiting SurfAid. Hitting store shelves soon and available now at vans.com/surfaid the $42 sandal comes in both a black and white version and the psychedelic multi-color print.
Although the sandals and accompanying Vans Era LX shoes (available at surf shops) should make any surfers feet happy, purchasers can also feel good about the fact that Vans will donate $25,000 to SurfAid in a matching funds program that hopes to net $50,000 for the organization this year.
SurfAid is a nonprofit humanitarian organization founded in January 2000 by Dr. Dave Jenkins dedicated to a community based program model improving the health and well-being of the people of the Mentawai and Nias areas of Western Sumatra, Indonesia.
Through the support of Vans, Surfer magazine and our customers, $50,000 can be raised to provide programs that will fight malaria and other preventable diseases in the Mentawai village of Pei Pei. Vans is hopeful that we can enlist the help of others to give back to these isolated cultures that are hospitable to legions of travelers and surfers.
