VEGEMITE SurfGroms Hang 10 with the Pros at Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 February, 2012 : - - Coolangatta/Qld - Eight VEGEMITE SurfGroms were living the dream on the Gold Coast today as VIP guests to the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. The VEGEMITE SurfGroms were hosted by four time World Champion Mark Richards, two time World Champion Tom Carroll, recently crowned Australian Open of Surfing Champion Matt Banting and former World Tour competitor Matt Hoy for a once in a lifetime surf session.

VEGEMITE SurfGroms is the world-first national junior surfing program which offers 5-12 olds an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills, while also developing a proficiency in surfing. More than 5000 children across Australia have joined the program since it started in October last year.

Every registered participant had a chance to win a trip to the Quiksilver Pro by providing a photo of themselves enjoying the program through the VEGEMITE SurfGroms SicPic competition or by simply describing their experience in 25 words or less in the VEGEMITE SurfGroms Is competition.

Six little frothers won a trip through the SicPic competition, while two wordsmiths put pen to paper to win their place at the world’s biggest surfing event.

The prize included: flights and transfers to Coolangatta Airport for one child and one adult; one night’s accommodation at Coolangatta for one child and one adult; a Quiksilver Pro event merchandise pack; exclusive behind the scenes tour of the event site and the opportunity to meet and surf with some of the professional surfers competing including eleven times World Champion Kelly Slater.

They also had access to the best seats in town on the VEGEMITE Mightiest Seat on the Beach, which will provide an uninterrupted, elevated view of the competition area plus also letting the kids try tarp surfing. It will be operating each day from around 7.30 in morning through to 4pm and serving VEGEMITE on toast all day plus hosting tons of giveaways with loads of VEGEMITE surf wax and Wahu beach toys.
