Three remain in contention for the crown

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 August, 2014 - Torquay, Victoria - The TOLL Victorian Open Series presented by HIF will reach its pinnacle this September at the world famous Bells Beach with the top Victorian Open surfers competing for the title of Victorian Open Champion and a spot in the Rip Curl Pro Trials in the final round of the state series.

With two rounds already completed, there are only three remaining surfers in the Open men’s division who are able to claim the title of Victorian Champion. Steve Noble (Cape Patterson) will be leading the charge for surfers on the East of Melbourne after taking out the Phillip Island round earlier in the year. Noble sits on a 3720 points going into the final round, 720 points clear of Jack Perry (Jan Juc) in second.
Perry had an uncharacteristic early loss at Phillip Island leaving him needing a solid results in the final round at one of his local breaks, Bells Beach. For Perry to take the title, he needs to win the final round or place second and have Noble finish outside of the finals.  For 13th Beach surfer Josh Johnson-Baxter (Ocean Grove), the task is much harder. Missing the first event at Gunnamatta on the Mornington Peninsula, Baxter is heading in without a result meaning he requires not only a win but for both Noble and Perry to falter early in the draw.
Baxter was able to give him self a slim chance of gaining the title by placing second behind Noble in the Phillip Island Round.Alongside the race for the Victorian Title, the winner of each TOLL Victorian Open Series round will gain a direct entry into the draw for the Rip Curl Pro Pre-Trials at Bells Beach in Easter.
The Women’s division was wrapped up earlier in the year at Phillip Island with ASP Womens Qualifying Series surfer, Georgia Fish (Flinders), taking out her second consecutive Victorian Title. The TOLL Industry Challenge will also be run, pitting brand against brand from the surf industry. Running for over 10 years, the event attracts some of the biggest surf brands in the world including Rip Curl and Quiksilver who all have offices in the region.

The weekend will be finished up with the TOLL Victorian Teams Titles. The event in its 36th year sees Boardrider Clubs from across the state battle it out for bragging rights and a spot on the prestigious trophy. The event will be run under the new Australian Boardrider Battle format.
The West Coast round of the TOLL Victorian Open Series, TOLL Industry Challenge and the TOLL Victorian Teams Titles will be held September 6th & 7th at Bells Beach The TOLL Victorian Open Series is proudly presented by HIF (Health Insurance Fund Australia) and supported by Play it Safe by the Water, TeamUp, VicHealth, Cancer Council Sunscreen, CoastalwatchPLUS & Nikon.
Heat Draws and Schedules will be released Thursday September 4th.
