Wahu Surfer Groms Comps set for a start this weekend in WA

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 November, 2010 : - - With summer just around the corner, Surfing WA is stoked to be hosting the first event of the Wahu Surfer Grom Comps summer surf series this weekend at Trigg Point. The unique event series will travel all around Australia and showcased some of the countries best up and coming surfers in an event which is all about having fun for young male and female surfers.

West Australian kids are the first to get the opportunity to make a name for themselves, in an event which caters just for the early starters in junior surfing. The two day event will run at Perth’s iconic summer wave location, Trigg Point with divisions including U15 boys and girls, U13 boys and girls, U11 boys and girls and who can forget the U9 push ins, which were a highlight of the event last summer.

With a good forecast for the weekend, the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps will see over 60 young surfers taking their skills to the water in what should be a weekend of fun and sun. Groms from all over the State are excited about being involved in not just a surfing event, but as well as heaps of fun and beach games thanks to crew at Wahu.

WA surfers that have already entered stop no.1 of this year’s series include Jake Edwards (Mosman Park), Ry Myers (Dunsborough), Kael Walsh (Mt Claremont), Kila Hatchett (Margaret River) and Ace Van Peer (Mandurah). Along with these surfers is local hope Sam Humphry (Wembly Downs), who is a recent member of the WA State Junior Team, Humphry will use his competition experience to hopefully claim a Wahu Title.

Five state branches (WA, SA, VIC, NSW and QLD) will play host to the exciting, all grommet affairs, and has been expanded to eight events nationally. Each event will promote healthy, outdoor fun with games, surfing and competitions with the main objective to encourage kids to be active, enjoy life and have fun.

Entries are filling fast so don’t miss out on your opportunity to participate in giveaways, prizes and tons of beach games.  Each entrant will receive an uber-cool Wahu Surfer Groms Comp T-shirt and will go into the running to win daily Wahu beach products. Divisions include: Under 15 boys and girls, Under 13 boys and girls, Under 11 boys and girls and Under 9 boys and girls combined (parent assist). Come along and have a go!

Competition will begin at 8am at Trigg Point. For all information be sure to check out for all event details.
