Top Euro SUP athletes to headline in Philippines
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 March, 2012 : - - Top European athletes Belar Diaz (Fanatic) from Spain and Canary Island residents from France, Eric Terrien and Fred Bonnef (Fanatic) will make it to the first Prime event of the 2012 Season to be held in the Philippines from 19th - 22nd April. These leading lights in the European SUP scene have seen considerable success in the international event circuit and will be looking to make their presence felt in San Jose and CamSur next month for this high profile first ever stop in Asia.
Starboard teammates Connor Baxter and Bart de Swart will head a star studded field of athletes heading to the Philippines for the CamSur World Paddle Challenge. Following a win at the first stop in Fiji, Connor will be looking to consolidate on his rankings lead, while Bart will be looking to get himself on the scoreboard at this prestigious Prime event.
Two times Stand Up Paddlesurfing World Champion Kai Lenny will be looking for his next step towards a World Title in Racing to complement his Surfing achievements. With a points tie with Connor Baxter in Fiji, how will Kai Lenny adapt to the calmer waters of the Philippines in round two of the 2012 Stand Up World Series?
Amongst the leading women racers in the world are expected to attend the CamSur World Paddle Challenge, with final names to be confirmed over the coming week. With the qualification process for the women mirroring the men, the global competition in the sport is expected to go through the roof in 2012.
The Naish La Torche Pro presented by Hoalen will be the 3rd stop on the Stand Up World Series for 2012, and the first European stop on the Stand Up World Series running on the 4th - 5th May 2012,
Taking place at the tail end of the Stand Up World Tour Surfing event on the beautiful north west coast of France, in Brittany, the La Torche Pro will feature a spectacular long distance course, as well as the World Series' dynamic sprint slalom, heat elimination format. This is the first of 3 Grand Slam events in 2012 that will feature both World Surf Tour and World Race Series events. The other two are Brazil and the Huntington Beach Pro (12th - 18th September).
Now in its 3rd year, the SUP Cup Race will take place in St Tropez, in the south of France on the 26th / 27th May 2012. This year's event will be a 4 Star Stand Up World Series event and provide an ideal World Series access point not only for French athletes, but also athletes from Southern Europe in general. With European series ranking points also up for grabs, this will an important stop for leading European athletes.
It will also attract international athletes looking to enhance their standing on the Stand Up World Series and for a chance to visit this completely unique region in Southern France.
