Strapped for cash, West Australia's State Goverment cuts funding for shark research
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 June, 2015 - Western Australia - Western Australia's Agricultural Minister Ken Baston says that the State Government will no longer fun research involving tracking tagged shark's movements and habits in the area, nearly three years after the program began.
The tagging and research followed a string of attacks. But despite recent news that government funding of shark deterrent research has yileded remarkably successful results—nearly nine out of ten times, studies showed that "Shark Shields" worked—Minister says “[The State Government has] had tough financial times, therefore the government has had to make cuts. “What are we going to do, continue to work from here to Africa tagging every shark?"
