Gear rundown for Wilko’s second CT win of the 2016 season

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 April, 2016 - When it rains it damn well pours, or it seems that way for the new improved Matty Wilkinson, who just won the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach. Wilko is on absolute tear with one WQS win, and two WCT wins already in the bag for 2016.

During the event he was riding the Gorilla ‘On The Blob’ fins which feature the FCS II technology, and also his signature Gorilla pad. Let’s take a closer look at the gear Wilko used on his way to ringing his first Bell…

DHD Board (Darren Handley)
DHD – Ducks Nuts Model: The Ducks nuts round tail is Mick’s step up board for perfect surf conditions. This board needs to be in every travel quiver. This is the exact board has the exact dimensions and construction that Mick surfs in competition. Glassing — 4 x 4 x 4 Standard; Rocker — MF Signature Rocker; Concave — Single to Double; Carbon — Narrow Cross Extensions; Fins — FCS 2 Five Fin; Optional — Round Pin Tail, Rounded Square Tail

Dimensions: 6’3” x 18 3/4” x 2 3/8”
Volume: 28.5 Litters
Bottom: Single to double concave
Tail: Rounded Pin

Gorilla Fins
The Gorilla ‘On The Blob’ Large fins are based on the FCS II Accelerator template, and feature an Otis Carey graphic on the side and center fins. This template has a flat foil on the side fins, and is a great fin for performing controlled high speed turns in critical parts of the wave.

”That Accelerator large template lets you draw-out a nice bottom turn then really ‘give it some’ off the top, that seemed to work well at Bells”. – Matty Wilko

FCS II System
Wilko had the Blue Reef colored FCS II plugs installed in all his DHD boards at Bells. The FCS II system is currently the most widely used system on both the men’s and women’s WCT tours.

Gorilla Leash
While the Gorilla 6’ Comp and Regular STR FKR Leash did the job on the smaller and medium size days, Wilko had to pull out a trusty 7’ leash on the final day when the swell was bombing. The Gorilla 6’ STR FKRLeash features a unique graphic on the cuff, has dual swivels, and feels comfortable even when you’re getting flogged.

Gorilla Wilko Pad
The Gorilla Wilko pad comes in three different artwork styles that’re applied using an exclusive printing process available only on Gorilla pads. Wilko’s signature 3-piece pad has a straighter edge on the outer panels and strategically placed holes for extra grip.
