Club rivalries heat up as World Surfaris commence

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 July, 2014 - Regional Championships for the 2014 World Surfaris Coast of Origin presented by Samoa Tourism Authority begin this weekend and if the calibre of surfers is anything to go by, it’s going to be an exciting Saturday for surfers on the Sunshine Coast.

The best Boardriders Clubs from south of Maroochy river will challenge their rivals who reside on the north shore as each region battles for surfing supremacy. 2013 Regional Club Champions, North Shore Boardriders will be aiming to take the title once more; however the task has been made more difficult with the absence of star athlete Dimity Stoyle (Buderim, Qld), who is unable to compete due to World Tour commitments.

Young up-and-comer from North Shore Boardriders Keely Andrew (Mooloolaba, Qld) will be looking to lead the charge against her southern counterparts but knows the competition will be fierce. “There is so much surfing talent within clubs located on the Southern Sunshine Coast. Laura Poncini is surfing so well at the moment so she will definitely be one to watch for Wind n Sea Boardriders,” said Andrew.

All eyes will also be on 2013 U/18 Australian Junior Girls Champion Isabella Nichols (Coolum, QLD) who is returning to the competitive surfing arena after an extended period out of the water due to injury.

Surfing Queensland Event Manager Adam Yates commented, “Isabella is one of Australia’s most talented junior surfers and to see her return to competitive surfing at this weekend’s Coast of Origin will be a great addition to this year’s series.”

He continued,“Some of the male talent is unbelievable as well, with the likes of Dean Brady and Kai Hing supporting their local Boardriders Club.”

Following Saturday’s Sunshine Coast Regional Challenge, the World Surfaris Coast of Origin, presented by Samoa Tourism Authority will head south to the Gold Coast for a club battle royal oftheir own on Sunday13th.

Reigning State Champions Snapper Rocks Surfriders will call upon their A-list cast of surfers to assist them as they campaign for a fourth straight regional victory.

The World Surfaris Coast of Origin series presented by Samoa Tourism is also giving two affiliated Boardriders Club members the chance to win the trip of a lifetime to Samoa, the treasured islands of the South Pacific.
