Roxy Pro is 17th victory on tour for 26-year-old Gilmore
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 March, 2014 - Roxy surfer Stephanie Gilmore claimed her fifth Roxy Pro Gold Coast event win, starting the 2014 ASP Samsung Galaxy World Championship Tour with a sensational performance.
Her impressive win marks the 17th victory on tour so far for the 26-year-old 5-time World Champion. On her way to this 5th success at Snapper Rocks (2005, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014), native Australian Stephanie Gilmore dominated the current World Champion Carissa Moore (USA) in the semis, and fellow Roxy girl, South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag, in the finals.
Stephanie Gilmore took the Roxy Pro Gold Coast crown after defeating the 2013 Rookie of the Year, Bianca Buitendag, 15.80 points to 10.47 points. This was Bianca’s first final on the ASP WCT.
“To win here today at the Roxy Pro at Snapper on the Gold Coast is one of my absolute favorite things in the world to do!” said Stephanie Gilmore. “To start off the year with a win has just been so amazing. I didn’t even get one last year, so to start the year off with a win at home definitely makes me feel confident heading into Margaret River and Bells. I can’t wait!“
This success at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast puts Stephanie Gilmore in the points lead ahead of Bianca Buitendag to kick of the 2014 surfing season.
