Team members raise funds to attend the ISA World Champs in Ecuador

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 March, 2014 - A fund-raising function will be held in Muizenberg next week to assist the six Cape based surfers who have been included in the South African Team that will travel to Ecuador at the end of March to compete in the 2014 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
Each of the 12 members of the 2014 SA Team has to raise a substantial amount of money to participate in this prestigious international surfing event. Those who are not based in the Cape have held, or plan to hold, fundraising projects in their own communities.
The Cape based surfers  - Ethan Fletcher, Jordy Maree, team captain Max Armstrong and his sister Ruth (all WP) along with Steff Burrows and Adin Masencamp (both Boland) – are collaborating with their respective sponsors, a group of associate sponsors and other benefactors to hold a fund-raising function which will take place at Primi Piatti in Muizenberg from 6.30pm on Thursday 13 March.
The main sponsors of the evening’s activities are Hurley, Billabong, Rip Curl and Primi Piatti, who are providing the venue. Confirmed associate and support sponsors include Reef, Dakine, Skullcandy, Von Zipper, Quiksilver, Nixon, Captain Fin Co, Neff, Oakley, Vida, the House of Machines, Creatures, Ian Armstrong Surfboards, Mayhem Surfboards, DVG Surfboards, Natural Energy Surf Shop, Lifestyle Surf Shop, Corner Surf Shop, Surf Shack, Bouchard Finlayson Wines, Sterhuis Wines, Campbells Peak Wines and Union Craft Beer.
All the sponsors have contributed prizes that will be used in a number of raffles to be run at the function. The value of each raffle will exceed R2 000 with tickets for each costing R50 and the winners drawn on the night. An auction of unique and appealing surf memorabilia will also be held at the gathering.
All proceeds from the function will be used to assist the Cape based six surfers with their expenses. The members of the SA Junior Surfing team who hail from KZN and the Eastern Cape will be present and Surfing South Africa will use the opportunity to present their National Colours to them on the night.
Tickets for the evening cost R100 and can be obtained from Surfing South Africa (surfingsouthafrica @ / 0824541149), Ant at Hurley (ant @ / 0724949801) or from SA Junior Team Manager, Isaac February (isaacf @ / 0834614363). Payment for entry and raffle tickets can be made by EFT to Cape SAJT, FNB, Rondebosch branch (201509), savings account 62032286214. Please use your name plus Capesajt as the reference.
This fund-raising project is supported by Zigzag and Wavescape. The South African Junior Surfing Team will depart for Ecuador on March 30 to compete in the 2014 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships. Over 250 surfers from more than 30 countries are expected to participate in this, the World’s biggest junior surfing contest.
