Brazilian Renato Galvao Claims Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro Over Patrick Gudauskas     > Portugues embaixo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2009 : - - Guaruja -- Brazilian Renato Galvao has taken out the Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro, besting the American Patrick Gudauskas in a great match-up in the final. In addition to racking up US$20,000 for today’s efforts, Galvao’s win rockets him from 70th to 37nd on the ASP WQS Men’s Tour ratings.

Galvao started the final heat of the historic 100th WQS Event in Brazil very slow with Gudauskas surfing two regular waves (5.83 and 6.33 points out a possible of 10), missing 20 minutes to go, Galvao started to erupt in good waves of two-to-three foot (0.5 to 1 meter) at Tombo Beach with a flurry of excellent scoring rides, a 8.00 and a 7.70 in the opening half of the heat to the delight of the good crowd presented at the beach

“I’m feeling very excited because the fans here twisted a lot for me, not only now in the end, but every day. I love Guaruja so I am very happy with this result and with this crowd on the beach. The final was incredible, Patrick is such a good surfer and I just wanna thank God for final and for this great event here in Guaruja” said Galvao, who also commented about his goals for this end of season after his victory at Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro.

“This year I really wanted to run more events but I was not abble to, I had a 9th in Noronha and a 5th in Portugal, and this victory help me a lot in the Ranking, so now I will go to Rio, and maybe to Canary and California before Hawaii, so let’s see what happens” completed Galvao.

This was Galvao’s second win at the Tour, he won in England in 2004. Finishing with 12.16 points (out a possible of 20) in the great final of Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro. Gudauskas was happy with his result and had one of the best performances in the event. With the result he moved from 5th to the 4th place in the Ranking.

“I really wanted to win here. I did a few semis and finals this year and really wanted to win a event here in Brazil, but Renato got good waves and I congratulate him for this victory" said Gudauskas, who took $ 10,000 and 2188 points for second place at Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro.

"The waves in the final improved a little bit, perhaps we had the best waves of day, so there was a great final for sure. I really want to win a event this year so this will be my goal until the end, so I'm not really thinking to much about ranking" conclued Gudauskas.

His last victory in Tombo Beach was against the South African Brandon Jackson in the semifinals number two. Brandon was one of the highlights of the event after sending back home the Australian and one of the favorites for the title of the Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro, Owen Wright in the last quarters.

"I came to Brazil focused in get good results and finish in third here was great" said Jackson, who has risen from 31th to the 21th position on the WQS Ranking in Guaruja. "I started this year very well, but them I had a few bad results during this season, so this result here certainly brings me more motivation to fight for a place in the Top 15. We have some important events ahead and I know I have good chances of qualifying, but I'll need to repeat good results like this now, in Rio and also in the other events including Hawaii, where everything is decided".

In third place also at Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro finish the Brazilian Pablo Paulino, who won the third quarter-finals over another great competitor Brazilian Marco Polo, but unfortunately in the semis against Galvao, Pablo didn’t found his rhythm.

"I'm happy to made the semis. I really enjoy Guaruja and I'll always want to surf well here. But now I will try an even better result in Rio and in the Canary Islands to improve my position. This year still hard to classify me to the ASP Dream Tour, but I will fight until the end" promised Paulino, who moved to 33th position in the WQS. Pablo also has two world titles in the ASP World Pro Junior, in 2004 and 2007.

The ASP Men’s WQS Tour now goes to Rio de Janeiro, with another 6 star event at Arporador Beach.

The 2009 Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro is presented by Suzuki Cars, with a realization of Guaruja City Hall and The Ministration of Turism and Culture of Brazilian Federal Government, with the support of Mr. William Woo and Tent Beach, Surf Trip, Surf Xpress, Cannel Bay, Pier 7 Surf Shops, and Su.fresh, Vibe and Steam. Renato Galvão vence o Local Motion Guarujá Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2009 : - - Assim como no ano passado, uma decisão Brasil x Estados Unidos fechou o Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro no domingo de céu nublado com chuvas ocasionais na Pérola do Atlântico. Só que dessa vez deu Brasil com o ubatubense Renato Galvão faturando o título contra o norte-americano Patrick Gudauskas nas ondas de 2-3 pés de altura do último dia na Praia do Tombo.

Um ótimo público compareceu e torceu bastante pelo brasileiro, que tirou notas 8,00 e 7,70 em duas ondas seguidas para liquidar o número 4 do WQS por 15,70 x 12,16 pontos.

Com a vitória, Renato Galvão ganhou o prêmio máximo de 20.000 dólares e subiu da septuagésima para a 37.a posição no ranking que classifica os quinze primeiros para a elite mundial do ASP World Tour. A “perna brasileira” de fim-de-ano segue agora para o Rio de Janeiro, onde na segunda-feira já começa outra etapa de nível máximo 6 estrelas como a encerrada neste domingo no Guarujá.

“Estou me sentindo muito emocionado porque o público aqui torceu muito por mim, não só agora na final, mas em todos os dias”, destacou Renato Galvão, 27 anos, que só tinha uma vitória do Circuito Mundial na carreira, em 2004 na Inglaterra. Agora, ele consegue seu segundo título na histórica centésima etapa do WQS realizada no Brasil, completada no Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro.

“Estou muito feliz pela galera do Tombo estar comemorando este titulo comigo e a final foi irada. O Patrick surfa muito e só tenho a agradecer a Deus por ter feito essa final e mais ainda por ter vencido o campeonato”.

A vitória deu até um novo ânimo para o ubatubense. “Eu queria ter corrido mais etapas este ano. Fui bem em Fernando de Noronha (PE) com um nono lugar, em Portugal cheguei nas quartas-de-final e fiquei em quinto, agora essa vitória com certeza vai dar um levante na firma.

Então agora vou pro Rio de Janeiro, quem sabe pras Ilhas Canárias também ou Califórnia e aí tem as duas últimas etapas no Havaí. Sei que será muito difícil conseguir uma vaga no G-15, mas vamos ver no que vai dar”, falou Renato Galvão.

O ubatubense abriu o domingo decisivo do Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro despachando o irlandês Glenn Hall e depois ganhou a semifinal verde-amarela contra o cearense Pablo Paulino, que vinha de vitória em outra bateria 100% brasileira nas quartas-de-final, contra o catarinense Marco Polo. “Estou feliz em ter feito a semifinal. Gosto muito do Guarujá e sempre vou querer me dar bem aqui.

Agora vou tentar um resultado ainda melhor no Rio de Janeiro e nas Ilhas Canárias pra melhorar ainda mais a minha posição no ranking. Esse ano está meio difícil minha classificação pro ASP Tour, mas vou batalhar até o fim”, prometeu o Pablo Paulino, 33.o do WQS, que têm dois títulos mundiais Pro Junior da ASP no currículo, de 2004 e 2007.

Já Patrick Gudauskas começou o último dia tirando o australiano Jayke Sharp, que no sábado aumentou o maior placar do campeonato para 16,80 pontos. Na semifinal, ele passou apertado pelo sul-africano Brandon Jackson por 14,00 x 13,20 pontos. O norte-americano queria a vitória que lhe escapou também na etapa das Ilhas Maldivas no primeiro semestre, onde amargou outro vice-campeonato. Ele subiu da quinta para a quarta posição no ranking e já é um nome quase certo para a elite mundial de 2010.

“Eu realmente queria muito vencer aqui. Fiz algumas semis e finais este ano e queria muito vencer aqui, mas o Renato pegou ótimas ondas e está de parabéns pela vitória”, reconheceu Patrick Gudauskas, que levou 10.000 dólares e 2.188 pontos pelo segundo lugar no Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro.

“As ondas na final melhoraram bastante, o mar deu uma reagida e talvez tenha sido o melhor momento do dia, então não há muito mais o que pedir, apenas gostaria de ter vencido. Eu quero muito vencer uma etapa este ano, este é o meu objetivo até o fim do ano e não estou pensando muito em ranking, colocações, etc..”, falou Patrick.

Sua última vitória na Praia do Tombo foi contra o sul-africano Brandon Jackson na semifinal, que tinha acabado de despachar o grande favorito ao título do Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro, Owen Wright. O australiano de apenas 19 anos de idade permaneceu em terceiro lugar no WQS, atrás do potiguar Jadson André e de outro australiano, Daniel Ross, que não veio competir no Brasil, mas continua na frente.

“Eu vim para o Brasil focado em conquistar bons resultados e o terceiro lugar aqui foi ótimo”, destaca Brandon Jackson, que subiu da 31.a para a 21.a posição no WQS no Guarujá. “Comecei muito bem o ano, mas depois dei umas escorregadas.

Este resultado aqui com certeza me traz mais motivação para brigar por uma vaga no G-15. Ainda temos mais algumas etapas importantes pela frente e sei que tenho boas chances de classificação, mas para isso vou precisar repetir bons resultados como esse agora lá no Rio de Janeiro e também no Havaí, onde tudo será decidido”, analisa o jovem sul-africano de 20 anos de idade.

O Local Motion Guarujá Surf Pro foi apresentado pela Suzuki Veículos, com realização da Prefeitura Municipal do Guarujá, através do Ministério da Cultura e do Turismo do Governo Federal, apoio do deputado federal William Woo e das lojas Tent Beach, Surf Trip, Surf Xpress, Cannel Bay e Pier 7, além da Sufresh, Vibe e Steam. O evento sancionado pela ASP South America foi organizado pela Federação Paulista de Surf e Event Tools.
