Ingelby and Sallas Dominate ASP Longboard Tour Riding FCS

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2009 : - - Sydney, Australia - Its official, the best longboarders in the world ride FCS. That’s a modest claim I know, but check out the 2009 ASP World Longboard Tour final ratings and the proof is right there in black and white.

It was a one-two double combo victory for FCS team riders Harley Ingelby and Kai Sallas last week at the inaugural Oxbow World Longboard Tour event in the Maldives. This is how it all went down…

The first punch landed when FCS/Gorilla team rider Harley Ingelby (AUS) clinched the 2009 ASP World Longboard Title after progressing past the quarter finals. The second punch landed when fellow FCS team rider Kai Sallas was crowned the event champion after a high scoring final against, you guessed it… Ingelby.

“It’s the best day of my life”, said Ingelby. “It would have been great to take the event win as well as the World Title but full marks to Sallas, he surfed a great final and he deserved the win, he’s been a standout all week”.

The event victory not only confirmed Sallas as one of the premier longboarders on the planet, but it also cemented his runner-up finish on the World Longboard Tour ratings behind Ingelby. “I’m so stoked to win this event, the waves have been super fun all week and it’s great to win and actually beat the current World Champion as well”, said Sallas.

This year the ASP World Longboard Champion was decided over two events; the opening event was held in Japan, with the second event in the Maldives.

Ingelby and Sallas dominated the 2009 Longboard Tour by combining progressive surfing with old school style. It’s interesting to note both Ingelby and Sallas use very different fin set-ups. Ingelby choosing the standard thruster and quad set-ups, while Sallas prefers the more traditional 2 + 1 set-up.

Ingelby further commented after the Maldives event “It was so good having FCS in my boards. I rode the same board I won on in Japan, and I could easily change the size of my fins to suit the hollow reef waves at Pasta point”.

Sallas was equally stoked on his equipment, “I was riding a 6.5 inch prototype of my signature FCS fin with FCS G-X sidebites. Everything was so perfect about the contest. The weather, the waves, my board and of course my fins were working insane!”.

FCS has the largest and most comprehensive range of fins on the planet, including a diverse range of longboard templates and longboard side bites.
