    31 January, 2015 - WSL QS: Top seeds took the waves for Round 3 of the Volcom Pipe Pro today and conditions kicked up in size and severity throughout the afternoon. Second Reef Pipe began to feather and it was boom or bust, delivering high scores, heavy wipeouts, the occasional injury and a slew of snapped surfboards as wave face heights reached 18 feet. The Volcom Pipe Pro is a $100,000 WSL QS 3000-rated event.

  • Volcom Pipe Pro kicks off in 8-to-10 foot surf

    29 January, 2015 - WSL QS: Bruce Irons has been behind many monumental tube rides on historic days at the Banzai Pipeline over the past 15 years. He won three events here between 2001 and 2002, including the esteemed Pipe Masters. A win has eluded him ever since. Today, following a magical ride in the opening day of the Volcom Pipe Pro, he declared he's back to win.

  • Seth Moniz crowned Sunset Beach Pro Junior champ

    28 January, 2015 - WSL JUNIOR: Honolulu's Seth Moniz has won the Sunset Beach Pro Junior Men's on the North Shore of Oahu, defeating Australia's Soli Bailey, Lucas Silveira and Glenn Daniel in 12-15-foot wave face heights. The waves contested over the past three days have been some of the biggest and best ever for a Pro Junior event. The Sunset Beach Pro Junior is a WSL Junior Pro 1000 event, presented by the World Surf League.

  • Dax McGill victorious at the Sunset Beach Pro Junior

    27 January, 2015 - WSL JUNIOR: North Shore's Dax McGill (Sunset Beach) has won the Sunset Beach Pro Junior Women's on the North Shore of Oahu with a powerful performance in firing 6-8 foot surf and the highest heat score of the event. Runner-up after a spirited exchange that included two tube rides was Honolua Blomfield (Haleiwa, HI); Summer MacEdo (Maui, HI) was third; and Brisa Hennessy (Kailua, HI) fourth.

    26 January, 2015 - PHOTOGRAPHY: What happens when the culture that gave birth to surfing comes under the National Geographic lens? Amazing images. That, and a culture familiar to most of now given the same treatment as, say, an Inuit tribe in Alaska. It’s a little uncomfortable but well done.

  • Snapper Rocks club claim second straight Boardrider title

    25 January, 2015 - CLUBS: Snapper Rocks Surfriders have won the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle for a second successive year at Cronulla. The defending champions from Queensland were on top of the leaderboard heading into Day 2 and maintained their consistency as a series of threats fell by the wayside. Despite finishing second in the last event of the day in the teams’ relay division, Snapper had enough points to take the overall title home again

  • Dramatic day 1 as Australian Boardriders Battle lifts off

    23 January, 2015 - BOARDRIDERS: Defending champions Snapper Rocks Surfriders are facing a major challenge to their title after a dramatic Day 1 of the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle National Final at Cronulla. Snapper is in a fierce battle with a pack of heavyweight clubs including North Narrabeen and Merewether. The newest club at the event, Culburra Boardriders from southern NSW, is also in contention despite a day of drama for their star female surfer Tyler Wright.

  • Surfers still the main victim of shark bites in California

    22 January, 2015 - SHARKS: The numbers are in for shark activity along the Pacific coast of North America for 2014. In all there were six authenticated, unprovoked shark attacks on humans according to the Shark Research Committee, an independent shark study group.
